When can I apply?

What happens if I have missed the closing date this year?

If you have missed the closing date and want to be considered for the following year, please complete Stage 1 of the application process and we will record your details and we will contact you in due course.

How much will I earn?

Remuneration will be reviewed as a result of each six monthly Performance Development Review discussion. Individual increases will be based on a combination of performance relating to goals and objectives, and demonstration of the required competency standards.

If unsuccessful during the selection process for the graduate programme, can I re-apply?

Yes you can. However, you will have to wait a full year before re-applying. For example, if you applied in 2009 for the 2010 intake, you will not be able to re-apply for this intake. But you can apply in 2010 for the 2011 intake.

Where will I work?

We are based in Auckland city centre. However, involvement in the graduate programme may require that you work at one of our sites based outside the city centre.

When will I know if I am being interviewed?

Following submission of your online application form, cover letter, CV and academic transcript, you will receive an email notification within 10 working days. This will detail whether you have been successful in moving to the next stage of the application process. This involves online psychometric screening and selection assessments which will assist in the short listing process.
 
Selection interviews will be held in two phases: July and August of the year prior to intake. Offers of employment will be made following each interview phase subject to satisfactory reference and pre-employment checks.

Will my professional membership be funded by Auckland City Council?

As a graduate completing one of our programmes, professional memberships are fully funded.

Can I undertake further study?

Yes, we actively encourage all employees to undertake relevant further academic or professional qualifications.

All graduates follow the same basic framework.

Do I have to choose a particular business area when joining the programme?

No, you will be placed in a group within council that we feel would best suit your background and provide the right foundation to build the relevant knowledge, skills and competencies within your professional field. Rotational placements thereafter will follow the outline as detailed in the relevant graduate programme.
 
Our graduate programme aims to develop well-rounded individuals with a broad overview of Auckland City Council The programme is also driven by our business needs, so we will manage your rotations to ensure maximum exposure and opportunities.

What happens at the end of the Graduate Programme?

Prior to completion of the graduate programme you will be asked to apply for available positions within Auckland City Council. Where there is no suitable position immediately available, all graduates will remain full time employees of Auckland City Council until a suitable position is secured.
